Weeds Assistant

Key Responsibility
- Contributing short and medium term workplans for the weeds team
- Annual budget planning for weeds R&D activities that forms part of the P&D budget
- Assess weed pressure and risk across various field conditions (e.g. cleared land, newly planted areas, waterlogged zones, ratoon crops, legume fallows, and hotspot areas).
- Promote continuous improvement in weed control operations, including technology use (e.g. nozzle types, drones, UAVs, boom sprayers, etc.).
- Evaluate new and international herbicide products under local conditions in collaboration with suppliers and R&D leadership.
- Troubleshoot major herbicide or crop safety issues, including testing for defective chemicals, application errors, or resistance.
- Refine herbicide recommendations to support decision-making and contribute to the annual herbicide purchase plan.
- Review herbicide efficacy and refine application rates, timing, and methods.
- Lead reporting on weed risks, control measures, and technical progress; develop training materials.
- Perform internal admin duties (e.g., daily worker records, asset tracking, PR submission)
- Uphold and promote best practices in herbicide safety, handling, and environmental protection.
- Mentoring and training both internal junior staffs and the Agri division.
Qualification
- Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Plant Protection, or related field.
- 4–5 years in weed management, field agronomy, or chemical application
- Familiarity with tropical agriculture systems, sugarcane is preferred
- Good observational and analytical skills
- Knowledge of herbicide use and weed biology
- Familiarity with application equipment (e.g., boom sprayers, UAVs)
- Understanding of safe chemical handling procedures
- Basic reporting and training ability
- Collaborative, with a proactive approach to problem solving
